Over the past several years, the Baseball Hall of Fame has continually been cheapened by the mediocre level of players being inducted.
Phil Niekro, Don Sutton, Tony Perez, Orlando Cepeda. These are but a few examples of the lousy joke that has become HOF. Don’t get me wrong, all of these guys were good players. However, good does not get you into the HOF. Hell, great does not necessarily get you in. The Baseball Hall of Fame is for the best of the best, the select few greats of their era. We’re talking Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Shoeless Joe Jackson (oops that’s yet another screw-up), Walter Johnson, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, etc. This year, for the second time in a row the HOF Veterans Committee chose not to elect anyone. Ron Santo… sorry, but while he was a very good player for an extended period, he was not a great player, let alone the best of the best. The same thing for Gil Hodges. Tony Oliva… a case of would of, could of, should of? Would he have been a legitimate Hall of Famer were it not for his knee? Maybe… but maybe does not get you into The Hall. Oh, and sorry Tony, being in Minnesota instead of NY has nothing to do with it. Next thing you know, some Cubbie fan is going to be saying that Ken Hubbs should be selected… Just joking!
