Major League Baseball and Butt Selig are rapidly reaching a point of serious embarrassment in
the Pete Rose situation.
The handling of the entire Rose situation has once again shown how Butt is much more concerned about grabbing the spotlight, than he really is about the game. Butt's pathetic handling of Rose continually throws false hope out to all who feel strongly that Charlie Hustle is worthy of a seat in Valhalla. Butt is manipulating Rose and is manipulating the fans, trying to look like the "nice guy" who will consider re-instating Rose, while clearly having no intention of doing so. The fundamental issue is that in order for Pete to be eligible to be selected for entry in the Hall of Fame, Butt must re-instate Rose to be eligible for any opportunities in MLB. We don't know about anyone else, but Bucketfoot most certainly has a problem with Rose EVER being allowed to be directly involved with the game. The idea of someone who bet not only on baseball games, but games played by his own team, clearly has no place in the game. On top of this, right in the middle of discussions about if Pete could become eligible, he is out in Vegas betting on sports... I guess brains were never a big part of his game. That being said, players should be judged by what they do on, not off, the field. Thus it is time to create a new eligibility category. One where individuals are eligible for HOF consideration, but ineligible for employment in the game of baseball. Should Rose be allowed to manage the Reds? Not a chance. Should he be in the Hall of Fame? You bet your @$$. While we're at it, let's make sure that Shoeless Joe gets the same opportunity.
